Far Cry 2 was in development for the PSP/Wii

The lush jungles of South Africa were a hiding ground for The Jackal, the antagonist for Far Cry 2 which debuted back in 2008. The sequel which was showcased at E3 2011 looks to take the franchise back to the tropical roots and is headed to the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC sometime next year.

This is however a story when Ubisoft wanted to bring the power of the Dunia Engine to both the PSP and Wii. We recently found out that Far Cry 2 was in development for the Wii and PSP between 2006 and 2007.

Philippe Baude who now serves as the lead designer for Ubisoft was once involved in the project scripting the core rules and game mechanics for the first person shooter.

We believe that the lack of juice of the PSP and Wii probably made Ubisoft reconsider their decision and the game was scrapped eventually. This however may not be the case with the Vita and Wii U whose technical specs have wowed most developers, so we might just see a port of Far Cry 3 on these set of consoles.
